asked 07/22/16What percent is the weight reduced to if you have a 300 pound box 6x3x6 ft pushed up stairs at a 30 degree angle?
I need to know the answer to this question. If I had a 300 pound box 6x3x6ft being pushed up stairs at a 30 degree angle what would the weight of the box be reduced to?

I am not sure that the dimensions of this box is providing any valuable information to resolve this problem.
If I understood it correctly, you are looking for the weight (300 pounds) of an object on an inclined plane.
If your box is on an inclined plane, the vertical weight vector is decomposed in two component vectors. One weight component vector ( 300* sin(30) is horizontal to the plane and oppose to the pulling force, and the other weight component vector (300*cos(30)) is vertical to the inclined plane and is the new weight. The effect of the inclined plane is reduce the real weight of the box while it is pulled stairs up.
I think that you are looking for this weight component: 300*cos(30) = 260
The reduced weight while it is pulled stairs up on an inclined plane is: 300 - 260 = 40 pounds
(= 13% less of the original weight)
I hope it can help you.

This problem needed to be restated to ask what is the reduction of the vertical component of the weight, because overall, the weight is not reduced.

It is right that considering the overall weight...it certainly does not change...this is why I have a doubt about the use of the box dimensions in this problem...Instead, I focused my point of view in the "net" weight of this box which certainly is reduced due to the inclined plane... if you use an inclined plane (30deg) this heavy box looks having less weight and easier to be pulled stairs up.
But I agree that this problem need to be restated.
