How do I answer this word math problem

A survey of students at a university shows that 3
out of 5 drink coffee. Of the students who drink? coffee, 1 out of 4 adds cream to it. If the university has  6,000 students, find the number of students who drink coffee with cream.

Quickly translating between various fractions and percents is important -- memorize several pairs.
 
If you are doing just fractions, "x out of y" means (x/y) and the word "of" usually means multiply.  So "1 out of 4" of ("3 out of 5" of 6000) means  (1/4)( (3/5)6000 ) = 900.
