I'm currently homeschooled and teaching myself Chemistry, but this problem has me stuck. Please help.

 This compound is an alkene with a 3 carbon "backbone".  Therefore, the compound is a derivative of propene (aka propylene).  The methyl group is on the #2 carbon, so the compound is 2-methylpropene (aka 2-methylpropylene).  It's common name is isobutylene.

Steve is of course correct. It's also great he mentions the common name, since in a lab, people generally just refer to compounds by their common names. Since you are teaching yourself chemistry (which can be very difficult to do on your own!) I'd recommend getting a private tutor to help you out. I offer sessions, and I'm sure Steve does as well.
