A company manufactures rulers. Their 12 inch rulers pass quality control if they're within 1/32 inches of the ideal length. What is the longest and shortest ruler that can leave the factory? solve for x and graph solution on a number line.

Ruler must be longer than 12 - 1/32 inches, or 11 31/32 inches

Ruler must be shorter than 12 + 1/32 inches, or 12 1/32 inches

 

11 31/32 < ruler < 12 1/32

or as an absolute value expression
