Part A: Speed = distance/time, Jose traveled 7/10 of a mile in 1/6 hour, therefore Speed = 7/10 mile ÷ 1/6 hour = (7/10 * 6) miles per hour = 4.2 miles per hour.

 

Part B: We know from the rate above that Jose will travel 4.2 miles in one hour. From this we can determine, the distance Jose will travel in a given amount of time. Use the equation, Distance traveled = Speed * time passed. 

4.2 miles/hour * 1/2 hour = 2.1 miles. Since Jose will travel 4.2 miles in one hour, Jose will cover 2.1 miles in 1/2 hour.
