Alternative solution to sequence 27, 9, 18, 6, 12, 4, ?

I just made a PJP test and among the questions there were some sequences where you should find the next number. I think got them all right apart from this one (27, 9, 18, 6, 12, 4, ?). I managed to solve this one as well. I thought. Start by dividing by 3, multiply by 2, divide by 3, multiply by 2 etc. Easy I thought. But among the given answers to choose from, my answer (8) were not be found! Curious as I am, I am desperate to know the other solution. Can anyone please help..!  /Lars
