Brown sugar is white sugar with molasses added to it. Molasses is a byproduct of the refining of raw sugar. Presumably, the amount of fermentable sugar will be greater in the brown sugar compared to the same volume of white sugar provided the brown sugar is tightly packed. Fermentation is the chemical reaction between sugar and yeast. If more sugar, reactant, is present, then more alcohol will be produced.
