Please help me solve this and show me how to do it

The students going on service adventure had a 2,367-kilometer flight. If there travel time was 2 hours and 56 minutes, what was their average speed in kilometers per hour?

r = d / t
r = 2367km / 2hr 56min
r = 2367km / 176min          change hours to minute
r = 13.4488636km / min     simplify
r = 806.931818km / hr        change minute to hours
 
The average was approximately 807 kilometers per hour.

 If you didn’t change the value of the numbers why do you  multiply 13 by 60

So you converted 2 hours and 56 minutes to 176 minutes, but after finding the answer you multiplied 13 by 60, if 176 and 2 hours and 56 minutes are equal, why was this?
