so number of girls will be x+12

 

now, 

 

total number of students in the band is 106

 

so,

 

x+x+12=106

2x=106-12

2x= 94

x=94/2

x=47

 

if x=47

x+12 = 47+12

i.e. 59

 

so, the number of girls in the band is 59.
