Question

A backyard has a rectangular shape whose length is 4 meters longer than its width. The perimeter of the backyard is 32 meters. Find the dimensions of the garden

let L be the length and W be the width.

L=w+4

let P be the perimeter.

P=2W+2L( perimeter of a rectangle)

given P=32 hence 32=2W+2L

substitute L for W+4

32=2W+2(W+4)

32=2W+2W+8

32-8=4W

24=4W

W=6 and L=10  (L=W+4 ,W=6)
