This question seems unfinished, I am assuming that you are supposed to find out how many eggs is required for each dessert. With this in mind I will help you set up the problem.
First off we want to know how many eggs a souffle needs and how many eggs a pie needs. Since these are what we are interested in lets given them symbols:
L := number of eggs in a Lemon pie
S := number of eggs in a Chocolate souffle
What we know: the total number of eggs in 9 souffles and 5 pies is to 46
and the number of eggs in 1 souffle and 5 pies is to 14.
We can write these as two equations using 4 rules:
1) when we see souffle replace it with S
2) when we see pie replace it with L
3) and means addition in math speak (+)
4) is means equal to in math speak (=)
Using these rules we get:
9S + 5L = 46
1S + 5L = 14
Now we have a system of equations and can solve for S and L.
Good Luck and I hope this helps.
