Recall the formula Pace = Distance / Time.
Thus, for the first four hours, the Lilliputians travel at a pace of P = 500 meters / 4 hours = 500/4 meters per hour.
For the next four hours, they travel at a pace: 3*P = 3*(500/4 meters per hour) = 1500/4 meters per hour.
Thus, in those next four hours, the Lilliputians travel: 4 hours * (1500/4 meters per hour) = 1500 meters.
In total, they travel 500+1500 meters = 2000 meters.
