Hi Lila,
I think these equations came from the previous word problem that I got you started with, I would be happy to help you solve the rest of it.
10x + 15y=650
x+y=50
First solve either of the equations for one of the variables, I will choose to solve the second equation for x.
x+y=50
x=50-y
Now looking at the first equation plug in this new expression for x, (50-y), wherever you see a x.
10(50-y) + 15y=650
500 - 10y +15y =650
500 + 5y =650
5y = 150
y=30
now that you have solved for y, plug that into x=50-y to solve for x
x=50-30=20
