I need to know what % were arrested during the holidays

during 2010 163 individuals were arrested under the influence of alcohol this was a 29% increase from the numbers arrested during the same time in 2010.  How many were arrested during the holidays in 2010?

Jolynn, if there is a 29% increase, then the new amount is 129% of the old, right?

 

If we call the old amount o, then...

 

1.29o = 163

 

Dividing both sides by 1.29...

 

o = 126
