how many guests must attend for the sophomores to pay for the permit?

the sophomore class is planning a picnic. The cost of a permit to use a city park is $250. To pay for the permit, there is a fee of .75 for each sophomore and one dollar 25 cents for each guest who is not a sophomore. 200 softmores plan to attend. How many guests must attend for the sophomores to pay for the permit?

Let me know if you get stuck.  The wording of the question was a little unclear but I hope this helps.

Do we divide $1.25 by the left over? I multiplied 200 by .75  and that is $150. The amount left is 100.

Okay, so the amount left is $100 which must be paid by some number of non-sophomores.

I think what you are saying is correct.

You must do.....$100/$1.25 which will give you the number of non-sophomores that they need to sell tickets too.

Yeah I think so. I got 80.

I have a test tomorrow and I need help, im in 8th grade taking algebra basically 9th grade math. And I have another question but it wont let me ask . I really apreciate you explaining the steps. What is the domain of the function f(x)=1/2x+6 if the range is -4,-2,-1,0,2

f(x)=1/2x+6 with range -4,-2,-1,0,2

The domain is all the values that x is allowed to take on, while the range is all the values that y can take on (or f(x) the way you have it written).

So since you are already given the range values you can plug those in to find the corresponding domain values.

I will do the first one for the range value of -4
f(x)=1/2x+6
-4=1/2x+6
-10=1/2x
-20=x

So -20 is the domain in this case.

So if you do a similar calculation for each of the other 4 range values you will have a complete set for the domain as well.

Can I see the choices to understand what the problem is looking for?

Oh yes of course. A:y=x  B:y=x^2-15 C:y=x^2 D:y=-2x

I apologize for the delayed response, I am not familiar with the term "parent function" but by doing a quick web search I believe the answer is c: y=x2, because that is the basic form of the function.  If you were to graph y=x2-2x-15 and y=x2 they would both be parabola's. y=x2-2x-15 is just a shifted version of the basic y=x2 function.  I hope this helps a little.

Oh no problem. Okay last two. Marcy deposits $550 in a savings account at 3% simple annual interest. The value of this account, v, is given by the functiom v=550+16.5t, in which t is the number of years the money is in the bank. What is the range ofthis function? A: 0 is less than or equal to v which is less than or equal to 550 B: v is greater than or equal to 550. C: v is less than or equal to 550 D; 0 is less than or equal to v which is less than or eqaul to 16.5

So the range of this function will be all the values v can take on.  Since v=550+16.5t and t is the number of years the money has been sitting in the back, it can not be a negative number.  So because t must be 0 or larger, v will be 550 if t=0 and larger as time goes on.  Therefore the range is B: v is greater than or equal to 550.

Art store is having a sale. All items marked down by 25%. Michell plans to buy 3 oil paimts and 2 paint brushes. She calculates the sale price of each item by using the function f(p)=p-.25p where p is the original price of the item. What is the independent and dependent variables and what do they mean? And A gardener knows that the # of ootatoes harvested varies directly with the # of potato plants grown. The gardener harvested 189 potatoes from 9 potato plants. Write an equation that represents the equation of directvvariation. I got 189÷9=DV?

For the art store question, p is the independent variable and f(p) is the dependent variable.  For the exact definitions I would look them up in your textbooks, but the reason p is independent is because it does not depend on another value it is just the original price.  Where as f(p) will vary as you change p so it is dependent, it represents the cost of an item after the 25% discount has been applied.

I believe you have the correct answer for the potato question.
