Let's think of the number of "first class seats" as f.
How many more "economy seats" are there than "first class seats"? "ten times as many" or 10f
So, let's call the number of "economy seats" e. What does e equal? e=10f
Now, how many seats are there total? 88 seats
Ok, so let's put this all together like this:
f+e=88
(# of first class seats + # of economy seats = 88 seats)
What is e again? e=10f
Therefore,
f+10f=88
or
11f=88
Hope this helps...
