Easy way to solve this problem; Multiply the numbers of each category together and that gives you the total amount of combinations. For this problem, 3 jazz CD's and 4 rap CD's gives 4x3=12. So she can make 12 different combinations with those CD's.

 

If she also had 5 rock CD's, then it would be 3x4x5=60 different combinations. A chart is good visual aid that can help you see the math and how to get to the answer.
