Hi Maria,
Those sound like good ideas. Almost any product can work here, although I agree it is hard to think of good examples! Here's some things that came to mind that you could research--
1) telephone: Bell/AT&T used to kind of own everything. Now phones are much better and landlines are a lot cheaper.
2) computer software: used to be all Microsoft
3) pharmaceuticals could be an interesting approach: While companies still have their patents, there is no competition because no other company can produce the same drug. But when patents expire, any company can make the drug and then you get generic versions of the drug which are much cheaper.
