Understanding the listening and speaking strengths and needs of ELLs allows teachers to adopt a more effective, individualized approach to instruction. It enables them to create a supportive learning environment that caters to the specific requirements of their ELL students, ultimately promoting their language development and overall academic success. Good instructional practices can include differentiated instruction, visual aids, modeling correct, grammar and punctuation, building vocabulary, visual support, sentence starters as well as regular assessment and constructive feedback. Also, having relatable content will help ensure that the student remains engaged, therefore producing higher success in mastering the English language.
