A math equation on my homework that I can't seem to solve. I asked my teacher and she didn't do anything to help me.

to get to 35 total plants you would need to purchase 3 flats and then 5 individual plants. that makes the calculation here

3*$5.50 + 5*$0.75

=$16.50 + $3.75

=$20.25

Think of it this way:

 

You can buy 30 of those plants in the form of 3 of the 10-plant flats at 5.50 apiece, then 5 more individual plants at 0.75 each.

 

So that's 5.50 x 3, + .75 x 5
