How would you decide which of the nine gold colored Easter egg is solid using the balance beam scale only twice?

You all asleep on the train. When you wake up,you are alone in the car,except for easter bunny. He has a table with a balance beam scale and nine gold colored eggs. He tells you that eight of them are made out of lead and painted gold and one is actually gold. But you cannot touch the eggs, except to use the balance beam scale twice.

OK. If the Easter eggs are all the same size, then gold is much heavier than lead, and the gold egg will weigh down the scale.

 

Separate the eggs into groups of three. Put one group on each side of the scale and set the third group aside. If the scale tips, you know which group of three has the gold egg. If it balances, the gold egg is with the three set aside.

 

Then take the three with the gold egg, and put one on each side of the scale, and one off to the side. If the scale tips, the gold egg did it. If the scale balances, the gold egg is off to the side.

 

You got a gold egg! You're rich! LOL
