Area of a polynomial

if a trapezoids area is a^2 + 2ab +b^2, find its height, h. Use area = 1/2h (a+b).

Area = a^2 + 2ab + b^2  

 

You should recognize this as a perfect square trinomial.  If you don't then try factoring it.  Hint - a factor is in the area formula in your question.  

 

Once you have the factored form of the area set it equal to the area in the formula, cancel what common factors you can, and solve for h.
