How many quarter cups of cereal are there in 6 and 1/4 cups?

There are 4 of the 1/4 cups in each cup.  So, 6 cups means 4*6=24 of the 1/4 cups.

Add the 1/4 cup and that makes it 25 of the 1/4 cups.

 

25/4 = 6 and 1/4    (converting improper fraction to mixed number)

6  1/4 cups means ....

there are 4 quarters to a whole. (1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1)

So, in 6 whole numbers, there are 24 quarters. (4 • 6 = 24)

But we have yet another quarter cup, so add that onto the 24 to make 25

Therefore, there are 25 quarter cups in 6  1/4 cups.

 

61/4 cups means ....

 

there are 61 quarters. 

Imagine adding 1/4 + 1/4 + etc......61 times!

(Remember, you add the numerators but keep the denominator the same).
