Multiply everything by LCM of 15 to get rid of fractions:
45x + 20 - 15x - 3 = 30
30x + 17 = 30

I have trouble with fractions, so multiply by LCM of 15:
45x + 20 - (3)(x-1) = 30
45x + 20 - 3x + 1 = 30 [distribute]
42x + 21 = 30 [collect terms]

x = 9/42 [divide both sides by 42]
x = 3/14 [reduce; divide both numerator and denominator by 3]
