7) Jimmy spent $380 on books. Math books cost $60 and science books cost $50. If he bought a total of 7, then how many of each kind did he buy?

 

8) A farmhouse shelters 13 animals. Some are goats (four legs) and some are geese (two legs). Altogether there are 32 legs. How many of each animal are there?

 

9) A class used vans and buses to go on a field trip. They used 15 vehicles to go on the trip. Each van holds 13 students and each bus holds 15 students. If 211 students went on the trip, then how many of each type of vehicle did the class use?

 

10) There are 26 animals in the field. Some are sheep (four legs) and some are chickens (two legs). There are 92 legs in all. How many of each animal are in the field?

60m + 50s = 380

6m +5s = 38

m+s =7

5m+5s = 35

m = $3 = price of a math book

s = $4 = price of a science book

x+y=13

4x +2y = 32

2x +2y = 26

2x = 6

x = 3 goats

y = 10 geese
