Yes, if you don't mind negative exponents you can factor that right away as the difference of 2 squares.

I'll finish this problem but outside of an actual lesson I wouldn't be able to to help you with the rest of your assignment.
 
You can factor  1 - x-2  as (1-x-1)(1+x-1). The lefts hand term will cancel with the denominator. 
 
Depending on your teacher you could leave the answer as (1+x-1) or multiply by x/x to eliminate the negative exponent.
