Calculating center to center location

You have a box with the width of 27" and two straps positioned equally spaced on the width of the box. How do you calculate the center to center location of the straps?

Straps equally spaced center-to-center means the spacing from the ends of the box to each strap centerline AND between the strap center lines are all the same.  Let's assign the following...

 

27=width of box, inches, given

  x=spacing from end of box to each strap,

                       from strap to strap, inches

 

So adding each of the three EQUAL spacings

together, we have...

x+x+x=27......Eq1

      3x=27......combine like terms

    ∴ x=9........divide both sides by 3

 

So straps will be equally spaced at 9 inches, center-to-center from each end of the 27 inch wide box.
