If p --> -p is a true statement, then p must be a false statement. This is because a conditional statement is only false when a true --> false. So if you know that p is false, p--> ANYTHING must be true. I hope this is an adequate explanation.
You can also do this as a formal logic proof, but I don't think that's what they want for this problem.
