Hi Chris,

 

The perimeter of a rectangle is P = 2W + 2L

 

In this case 180 = 2W + 2L

Also, the 2nd sentence says L = W + 22

 

We can substitute this value of length in the perimeter formula

 

180 = 2W + 2(W+22)

180 = 2W + 2W + 44

180 = 4W + 44

136 = 4W

34 = W

 

Then, since  L = W+22

L = 34+22 = 56

 

So the dimensions of the carpet are 56 x 34.
