The FCI message pack 1000 plan includes 1000 text messages per month for $10. Additional text messages are $0.10 each. If Jean uses this plan, what is the maximum number of text messages she can purchase for less than $25 per month?

This question is asking us how many ten cent text messages we can buy for (25-10) = $15

 

We will then add that number to the 1000 we already get with the plan

 

so let x be the number of additional text messages we can buy:

 

.1x = 15

 

x = 150

 

Therefore we can buy 1000 + 150 = 1150 text messages.

Jean gets the first 1000 text messages for $10 leaving $15 for additional text messages at $0.10 per text message.  So divide $15 by $0.10 to determine how many additional messages she can purchase:

15/0.10 = 150.

So for $25 dollars, Jean can purchase 1000 + 150 or 1150 text messages.
