A riverfront boat storage area is rectangular with fencing an all sides except the side along the river. If 550 m of fencing is used and the side along the river is 50 m shorter than the two longer sides, find the dimensions of the site...

X= length of longer side (of which there are two)

x - 50 = length of side opposite the river

there is no fencing along the river

 

550 = 2x + (x -50)

550 = 3x - 50

600 = 3x

200 = x

 

The long sides are 200m each.

the side opposite the river is 200 - 50 = 150m
