when the smaller of two consecutive integers is added to four times the larger, the result is 44.  Lind the integers

n + 4n + 4 = 44

 

5n = 40

 

n = 8

we can also do a solution check by substituing our two integers into our expression

 

8 + 4 (8+1)

 

 

= 8 + 4(9)

 

= 8 + 36

 

= 44
