Multi variable word problem

Question

when person A works alone he can pick all the apples in 10 days. When person B works alone he can pick all the apples in 16 days. when person A and B work together they can pick all the apples in 8 days. Their combined rate is decreased by 90 apples per day. How many apples need to be picked in total?

person A does the job,J, in 10 days,D,.....which means he can do (1/10) *J = 1 D.

person b does J = 16 D.........................which means he can do (1/16)*J = 1D.

 

So together they can do (1/10 + 1/16)*J = 1 D

1/10 + 1/16 = 26/160 J = 1 day. multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal to get

the job, or Job = 160/26 Days or 6 and 2/13 Days.
