7x + 4y = 10
9x - 5y = 22

Multiply the first equation by 5.  Multiply the second equation by 4.
 
35x + 20y = 50
36x - 20y = 44
 
 
Next, we can add the equations.  This will eliminate the y terms.
 
71x = 94
 
    x = 1.324
 
 
Now, plug in this value of y into any of the equations to solve for y.
