If there are 13 pink and 30 white. How many pink need to be added so the ratio of pink to white is 2:1?

A ratio of 2:1 means that there a 2 pink for 1 white.  In order to have that ratio, we need (60 pink):(30 white).  That is a ratio of 2:1.

 

So, how many more pink are needed to get 60?

x=# of pink to be added

 (13+x)/30=2/1     (2:1 can be written as 2/1)

cross multiply

1*(13+x)=30*2

13+x=60

x=60-13

x=47 pink need to be added

there is twice as many pink as white in the ratio 2/1

you have 30 white so you need 60 pink

you have only 13 pink so you need to add how many pink to get 60 ?

60-13=47 again

If the ratio pink to white is 2:1, and you have 30 whites you should have 60 pink, therefore you have to add 47 pink to the 13 you initially have.
