Hi if I have 1thousand dollars and it's 50$ each book how many books will I get for that 1,000 dollars ?

To convert units without changing the value, we use the Multiplicative Identity (that is, 1).

 

You have:

       $1000

       $1000 * 1

       ($1000)*((1 book)/($50))          [Multiplicative identity]

       $1000/$50   books                 [dollars cancel, leaving only books]

        20 books

You can solve this problem by using equivalent fractions.

 

1 book   =  x books

50 $          1000 $

 

x has to be 20 to have equivalent fractions.  

 

you can also solve for x, by multiplying both sides of the equation by 1000$

 

x= 1000 $*1 book = 20 books 

            50$

 

you will get 20 books.
