Finding a simplified perimeter.

Question

The shape is a rectangle. The measurements are 7x + 4, and x + 3.

The first set is the length. The second one is the width. Please help.

Since we are told that the length is (7x+4), while the width is (x+3):

Perimeter=length+length+width+width

Perimeter=(7x+4)+(7x+4)+(x+3)+(x+3)

Perimeter=7x+4+7x+4+x+3+x+3

Perimeter=16x+14

∴The perimeter=16x+14.

a rectangle has 2 lengths and 2 widths.

2 lengths: 2(7x+4) = 14x+8

2 widths: 2(x+3) = 2x+6

 

a perimeter is the sum of the lengths of all four sides so simply add those together:

 

14x+8 + 2x+6 = 16x+14
