The P-value is the area under the normal curve to the right of the test statistic of 1.63. Using the table in your text book the area to the right of 1.63 is .4484. Since the significance level is α = .05, you must find the entry in the main part of the table closest to .05 and read the table backwards. In this case .05 lies half way between 1.64 and 1.65 which is 1.645 for the critical value.
