Simplifying Polynomials

Simplifying Polynomials:
 
a)     (x^2-1) - (x^2-x-1) =
 
b)     x^3(x+1) + x^5 (x^2-x) =
 
c)     x^4 (1-x^4) + x^8 (1-x^8) =
 
d)     (x+5) (x^2 +1) =
 
 those were not negatives

Those were not negatives in front of the examples they were just saying a- this changes the answer correct ?

Actually the minus sign in front of the parenthesis
is a negative sign... 
 
The - in front of the parenthesis means the
terms inside the parenthesis are being multiplied
by -1.
 
It is understood that -(a+b) = -1(a+b) = -a-b
 
Just as -a means we have -1a
 -a = -1a
