please solve my math confusion

when any no is divided by 12 then dividend becomes 1/4th of the other number by how much percent first no is greater than the second no

x/12=1/4y
x=3y
x/y=3/1

  1. i know the answer but i want clear my Doubts
  2. how to find out what is x and y value
  3. which one is greater than which means x is greater than y or y is 3 times of x how to determine teach me
  4. two variable need two equation but here one equation stated and how we find both no.
please send me book name or video name where i get detail fraction numbers information

The result of a division is a quotient (and possible a remainder). You say when a number is divided the dividend becomes 1/4. That does not make sense to me. Please explain.
