Sorry!  I forgot to answer.
-7=m/-42
Multiply both sides by -42...
(-42)(-7)=(m/-42)(-42)
A negative multiplied by a negative is positive.
294=m

OH But I just realized I didn't multiply by -42 I multiplied a positive to cancel out the denominator.  Was that wrong?

There are various techniques to accomplish the same end.  You can multiply by +42, as long as your final result is positive, and you show such work.

if I multiply -42*-42, it doesn't cancel out I get 1764,,,,.  I don't get it.  Please explain.  What is my answer?  I thought I had to cancel out

-7=m/-42
You will multiply both sides by -42 to isolate m.
(-7)(-42)=(m/-42)(-42)
You will not multiply -42 by -42.
On the right side, this number is originally the numerator.  The multiplying the factor is the denominator.  It therefore cancels.
