Plot the first point, which is (0, 8).  This is the y-intercept,

 

Use the slope and first point as a reference to plot the second the point.  The slope is -2.  The second point is (1, 6).

 

Connect these points throughout the coordinate system.

 

 

Once you have your line, look for the point of intersection.

for the first equation you need to think about the linear equation and it's structure

 

y=ax+c ...... a is the slope of the line and c is the y-intercept of the line

 

the first equation is y=2x this means that the line has a slope of 2 and it y-intercept at the origin (0,0) since c=0, the slope is positive therefore the line is going from down to top and from left to right, a =2 this means that for each increase of the x by 1, y is increases by 2, therefore if x=1, y=2, so the first point is (1,2) and you know it is intercept with y at (0,0) you can now draw the line

 

for the second equation y=-2x+8

c=8, this means that the y intercept is at 8 (i.e. point (0,8)). the slope is negative which means that the line is going from top to down and from left to right, a=-2 which means as x increase by 1 unit, y is decreasing by 2 units, for x=1, y=-2(1)+8=6 the first point is (1,6) connect that point to (0,8) and you can extend the line with the same slope and have the second line

 

the solution will be the point where both lines intersection which is (2,4)
