Let variables represent...
s=sale price of suit
r=regular price of suit
d=amount of discount
So we can say...
(saleprice of suit)=(regular price of suit) - (amount of discount)
Let's substitute our variables...
s=r-d
Let's substitute the numbers we know for the variables...
248=r-55
248+55=r-55+55.......add 55 to both sides
303=r..................simplify
∴ r=303.............rewrite
Recognize that you can create your "math facts" (two
addition and two subtraction facts) for this problem from
the numbers we have. Fact #1 was used to solve this
problem.....
248+55=303.....addition, fact #1
55+248=303.....addition, fact #2
303-55=248......subtraction, fact #3
303-248=55......subtraction, fact #4
