The perimeter of the fence is one meter longer than three times the length, and three times the width is one meter shorter than twice the length. What is the area of land enclosed by the fence?

P=2l+2w

P=3l+1

3w=2l-1, so w=(2l-1)/3

equate the two Ps

2l+2w=3l+1

substitute for w

2l+2([2l-1]/3])=3l+1

multiply both sides by 3 (all terms !)

6l+2(2l-1)=9l+3

6l+4l-2=9l+3

10l-2=9l+3

10l-9l=2+3

l=5

w=(2l-1)/3=(10-1)/3=9/3=3

l=5 m and w=3 m

A=l*w

A=5*3=15 square meters
