(m-9)/4 - (4m-14)/7 =2

1) make sure the fraction has like denominators so the quick way is to use common denominator  7*4 = 28

 

(7m-63)/28   -  (16m-56)/28    = 2

 

2) combine the top since the denominators are the same

 

(7m - 63 - 16m + 56) / 28 = 2

 

3) add/subtract like factors

 

(-9m -7) /28  = 2 / 1

 

  9m - 7 = 56

 

  9m + 7 = -56

 

  9m = -63

 

  m = -7

  Simply multiply both sides by 28

 

      7m - 63 - 16m + 56 = 56

          -9m - 63 =0
