A bakery makes $7 profit for each small cake, s, it sells, and $24 profit for each large cake, l, it sells. Use the expression 7s+24l to find the profit when the bakery sells 8 small cakes and 4 large cakes.

Chris, just substitute for the "s" and "l" in the given equation. 

 

The given equation P(rofit) = 7s + 24l

 

Substitute for the s and l gives:

 

P = 8 * 7 + 4 * 24

 

P = 56 + 96

 

P = 152

 

Or the profit from selling 8 small cakes and 4 large cakes is $152.
