This is the chapter with the funeral, right?
The boys are presumed dead. The community comes together to mourn them. Basically, these kids who were always considered bad apples, for all of the hijinks they pulled, are remembered fondly by everyone. Their previous actions, considered criminal, by some, now become great deeds.
Everyone misses them, until they come strolling into the church. They are then showered with hugs and kisses and welcomed back into the fold.
The hypocrisy is in the fct that NONE of those people had anything good to say about Tom, or Huck (in particular), in life, but lauded them in death.
Hope this helps!
