per hour. Kayla earns minimum wage while working at the campus bookstore. If she works for 4 4/5hr, how much should she be paid?

This is a problem using fractions; no sensible anything would pay $5.83333/hour.

 

Let's use improper fractions:

  Total pay   =  dollars per hour   *  number of hours 

           (note: hours cancel out, leaving only dollars)

  Total pay   =   5 5/6         *       4 4/5

   Total pay  =  (35/6)     *   (24/5)

    Total pay =   (7/1)   *   (4/1)        (cancelling makes life easier)

    Total pay = $28.00
