find the value of a and b , if a+b root3= 1/ 2- root3

I really need help please. my exam is near and i am not able to answer this question.. please help

a = 1/2    b = -1

 

 

a + b root 3 = 1/2 - root 3

                   =(1/2) + (-1) root 3

                    = a     +    b root 3

 

Compare. Coefficient of root 3 = -1 = b.       Constant term a = 1/2

 

 Alternatively, a = (-root 3)

b = 1/(2 root 3) = (root 3)/6
