Josh bought 45 bottles drinks for his party she purchased soda for 1.60 each and water for 2.00 each the total cost of the drinks was 80.00$ how many of each type did she buy

Let the number of soda bottles = x

Let the number of water bottles = y

 

Using these variables, we can set up equations based on the problem description.

 

x + y = 45    ---->  total number of drinks

 

1.6x + 2y = 80   ---->    total cost for drinks

 

 

We have two equations to work with.

 

x + y = 45                         eq1

 

1.6x + 2y = 80                   eq2

 

 

We can use the substitution method.  Substitute eq1 into eq2 to get a single equation in terms of one variable.

 

1.6x + 2(45 - x) = 80

 

 

Solve for x.

 

1.6x + 90 - 2x = 80

 

-0.4x + 90 = 80

 

-0.4x = -10

 

    x = 25

 

 

This means that Josh bought 25 soda bottles and 20 water bottles.
